Navigating by the Stars

How has navigation changed since World War 2?   When a World War 2 veteran recently explained their story to me, it shows how far location aware technology has progressed. In World War 2, he was a Navigator on a US Bomber which frequently went on missions into European airspace.  The technology he used was a sextant and navigation by stars.  Although rudimentary, this allowed precision navigation in an era of mechanical devices and star charts.

He recently was driving in the suburbs of Phoenix and the GPS device in his car stopped working. Although an experienced navigator he got lost in the suburbs  of  Phoenix.  Reliance on location aware GPS technology has taken on a new meaning…
